Subject:
Help! I think I bricked the GPS!!! *Stupid me*

Hi everyone. I am really hoping someone will know what to do. I have tried all the special files like YFormat.fmt and YFgo2CE.bld (and, yes!, it has had text in it!) -- even boot.ini.
I can't get the WinCE to load and I can't connect through the computer (the device is no longer recognised) When I boot the device, the porsche boot image comes up and then an error beep and the following message: pmp.exe ------- Cannot find 'pmp' (or one of its components). Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all the required libraries are available. I have also tried the firmware update on the card. Is there an alternate way to get CE to load on these devices! They must be a new version. Thanks to everyone for looking at this!!! Martin |

What happened to cause this, did you flash some other firmware to it? If YFormat.fmt doesn't work (did you try it on the SD card that came with the device?) then the bootloader has probably been replaced. If it is getting as far as a Windows message about not being able to load an exe then I'm surprised ActiveSync is not working. Try waiting a few minutes after it has booted and unplugging and replugging the USB cable a few times.

I replaced the files in residentflash2 with the new one for the snappier sexier skin. My residentflash2 directory didn't have a YFAP30 directory, though, all the files were just in the root, so I deleted all of them and placed the new files in residentflash2.
Everytime I plug the GPS in it just says "USB Device Not Recognized" although the orange light on the GPS does start pulsing a little bit as though something on it is being read. When I look in Windows device manager it just says "Unknown device" which when looking at the properties of it says "No drivers were found for this device" Thanks for your help. :) I took a backup of the residentflash2 directory before I played with it, so if i could get into WinCE or totalcommander I could easily restore the old setup. |

It must have come with different firmware loaded already then. Did it still look the same as the one in the DX screenshots (orange background, white car etc)?
There is a similar sort of problem described here (use Google Translate): http://4pda.ru/forum/lofiversion/index.php?t5832-21000.html There is no way that the PMP they link to is the right PMP.EXE though. If you are going to try the flash they link to I would start with just the file jtdAppUpdate_82c.swp as that is the one that contains the menu software. The bootloader is "centrality nboot v5.0 May 15 2009" and you can find a bit of info about that via Google as well. ___________ |
|
PS I should stress that I would not try any of the other flash files in http://www.igreen.com.hk/download/gps/DG_G43xxNB_v2.rar except as a complete last resort, as the operating system and drivers may not be for this device so you could make the problem worse!

Thanks! I tried first with just the .swp file and it would say "Update failed" so then I tried with all the files (the link looked like the exact same device) and everything completed successfully but it still brings up the error.
Two things I have noticed now though, it makes a sound everytime i touch the screen and I can't load just the swp file anymore. I've tried running the whole update one more time but it still hasn't taken away the error. :( Do you know of any alternative way to get it into the WinCE? If I could just edit the files I could restore the backup of the residentflash2 directory. :) |

The most frustrating part right now is that these files actually do something (as opposed to the others which don't do anything) so it just makes the solution feel within grasp yet I have no other ideas.
I found this link: http://www.fixya.com/support/t2856672-problem_gps_4_3 Where the guy is in the exact same position as me, where he tested the software and it still brings up the pmp error. No one has posted a solution to his problem either, which kind of sucks (and I can't figure out if FixYa gives the solutions for free or if you have to buy them). |

Hi.
I had same problem. I got GPS from ebay and was ther any problem, so I tried flash firmware. It was same looking 4.3" gps with orange line. Some of them uses 2 files with firmware and menu, works there YFGo2CE.bld but this is not that GPS. This GPS needs files from DG_G43xxNB_v2.rar and problem here is that it programes firmware but didnt program "menu" - files to ResidentFlash2. I tried many times reprograming firmware and today I tried this: Normally let the GPS programing the firmware, but when it comes to "Erasing NAND flash" I let this go to 100% and then, when "Creating partitions" I pressed RESET button. So I had a GPS with free memory I thing, when I press POWER ON button (with no memory card), nothing has happend. Then I reinserted card, power on GPS, and reprograming started again from start. I put GPS apart from me, but after while I found, that I see blue screen with some text and progress bar - MENU WAS PROGRAMED! When it said "done" I remove card and reset and $76.66 is working again! Let me know if it will help you. Vaclav - Czech Republic |

Hi Vaclav,
Thanks for your great tips. After you stopped the partitioning and reset it did you change any files on the card? Or do anything else special? When I did it now, it just comes up with the pmp.exe error again. Again, a big thank you! /Martin |

No, I didnt change anything.
I dont know what exactly happend, because I put gps on the table. I didnt expected something new... |
